Your Alert Profile

The Reviews.com Alert Profile lets you keep track of new reviews and forums in your areas of interest. With the Alert Profile, you are notified whenever a new review in your area is published, or every time a new post is made to a particular forum.

Creating an Alert Profile

If you are a registered Reviews.com user you automatically have an Alert Profile. The options you choose in the Primary and Secondary Interest fields form the basis of your Alert Profile.

Viewing and Editing your Alert Profile

  1. From any Reviews.com screen click on the Enter Your SmartBox link at the top of the page.
  2. You will be prompted to log in. Enter your User ID and Password and click Log In.
  3. Your personalized Alerting page will load. At a glance, you can see the CCS terms, Journals, Items and Forums you will be alerted to, as well as search results from any Saved Searches you have configured.
  4. The More Results link brings you to additional matches.
  5. Click on the Edit button in any section to edit that alert area. You will be brought to your current list of previously created alerts in that area.
  6. To remove an alert, select it by clicking in the checkbox and click the Delete button.

 

 

 

 

 

Adding New Alerts

  1. To add a new CCS term, Journal, Item, or Forum to your Alert Profile click on the Add New button. Drill down to the categories you are interested in, then to the subcategories. Select specific areas you wish to be alerted to by clicking in the corresponding checkboxes. Click on the Add button and your selections will be added to your Alert Profile.
  2. To add a new Saved Search click on the Add New button. You will be brought to the Create a New Saved Search page.
  3. Give the new search a descriptive name.
  4. Select the option describing how you will use this Saved Search. To have the search run automatically andalert you whenever new items at Reviews.com meet the search select to be alerted to reviews. If you want the search to be saved in your Alert Profile, to be run whenever you choose, select for my presets.
  5. From the first column of drop-down options select the field you would like to search. In the middle column, enter the term you want to search for. Select a search modifier from the third column drop-down. The more lines you fill in, the more detailed the search will be.
  6. Select the number of results to preview and click the Preview button to run your search query. Each search is unique, depending in its specific purpose, but here are some general guidelines for creating search strategies:
    • In general, narrow searches by adding more search terms, and by using and as a modifier.
    • Broaden your search by using or as a modifier.
    • Alternate between editing and previewing your search to reach the level of relevance and number of results that meets your specific needs.
    • Create searches for specific purposes- for example; you might want broader alerts in your specific field to make sure you are notified of anything new. Use specific searches to keep track of an individual's publication histories, or mentions of your name.
  7. Click the Add button to save the completed search.

 

 

Setting your Alert Frequency

The Frequency tab of your Alert Profile lets you customize the format and frequency with which you recieve alerts.

  1. Select an Alert Notification option. Alerts are sent via e-mail: Choose E-Mail with partial Citation to receive a listing with basic information on each item. If you would prefer to receive shorter e-mails select E-Mail with no Citation for a more compact list.
  2. Select an Alert Frequency. Choose how often you will receive alerts, or opt to not receive any e-mail at all.
    Note: If you choose not to receive e-mail alerts simply check your alert page for updates whenever you choose.
  3. Click on the Save button. Your options will activate immediately.

 

 

 

 

 

Alert Settings

The Alert Settings tab lets determine the content displayed on your Alerting page.

  • Select how far back your alerting page data is displayed by choosing 30, 60, or 90 days from the Show as 'current' results of the past drop-down list.
  • Select the number of reviews to display per category and subcategory by choosing from the drop-down lists.
  • Note: Numbers per subcategory overrides numbers per category. If you choose a larger number of subcategory, that number will be displayed. Subcategory results are not constrained by your category choices.
  • Choose how your More Results pages will be sorted.
  • Click on the Save button and your alerting settings will be saved.
