Enterprise CarShare Review
As one of the most reputable brands in the industry, Enterprise CarShare offers a solid selection of plans and vehicles, and a mobile app lets you make last-minute changes on the go.
A plan for every type of trip
For individuals, Enterprise CarShare provides three distinct plans to choose from based on your usage. First, the popular Keep It Simple plan, which is excellent if you occasionally need a car, offers a low hourly rate of around $7 to $8.50 an hour. This plan includes up to 180-200 miles per trip/per day. Next is the Keep It Local plan, with hourly rates starting between $5 and $6.75 an hour. This plan does not include any miles. Instead, you get charged between $0.25 and $0.40 per mile on top of the hourly rate. Finally, the Road Warrior plans have a few options where you can pay a monthly fee to get reduced prices between 10 percent and 15 percent or, in some markets, can lock in a low hourly rate. If you want to avoid monthly fees, stick with the Keep It Simple or Keep It Local plans and upgrade to the Road Warrior plan as your usage increases. Keep in mind that all prices are based on market, so make sure to speak to your Enterprise representative to confirm your rate.
Large selection of vehicles
Enterprise CarShare provides a wide selection of vehicles to fit just about any renter’s needs. Whether those needs are to haul a large dresser or just drive across town, Enterprise’s fleet comprises pickup trucks, fuel-efficient sedans, and hybrid/electric vehicles, to name a few.
Additionally, Enterprise launched the CarShare mobile app to easily reserve, extend or modify CarShare rentals from a smartphone.
Insurance and assistance included
Enterprise’s insurance plan offers you great peace of mind. The plan, which covers every vehicle, provides damage and liability protection on every trip. If you encounter vehicle trouble during your trip, roadside assistance is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fuel is also included; simply refill at any gas station with the fuel card located inside the vehicle.
Strong brand name backing
Enterprise is a highly recognizable name in the car rental industry, making it a more trustworthy outfit for some customers. Other car share services without brand names may be more difficult to understand in terms of maturity, scalability, and reliability. Ultimately, while the brand name is less important than the quality of the service itself, new car share users may find some peace of mind utilizing a service that’s reputable and well-known.
Not good for short rides
Enterprise may not be of great value if you intend to rent a car for very short trips, as they only offer hourly and daily rates. For instance, if you need a vehicle for a 20-minute visit to the grocery store, you’d pay for an entire hour plus mileage. A good choice for a quick trip is Car2Go because it charges by the minute in addition to the hour, day, and longer.
Mileage not always included
The whole idea of a car share service is to make it easy for you to get from point A to point B and back. Most services accomplish this by keeping hidden fees at bay. Unfortunately, in the Keep It Local plan, Enterprise charges a base hourly rate and adds on up to $0.40 per mile. Since mileage can be hard to estimate, this charge complicates the decision between plans and can be frustrating.
