Schwinn 431 Review

The Schwinn 431 is an excellent option for those looking to get a good elliptical that doesn't take up a lot of extra space. Workout tracking software and a low price also help make the Schwinn 431 a desirable choice, but the mediocre warranties may be a turnoff for some. Buy Now

The Good

Tracks progress over time:

Tracking workouts can really help you progress quickly toward your larger fitness goals. The Schwinn 431 elliptical allows you to track all sorts of workout statistics so you can see your progress over time. This is a really cool feature not found in many other ellipticals and so if this is something that you would be interested in having, the Schwinn 431 is going to be one that you will want to consider.

Great console features:

The Schwinn 431 elliptical has almost all of the console features you could ask for. The only notable omission is a chest pulse sensor, but since it has heart rate hand grips, this is not terribly important. This machine comes with a built-in console fan and a reading rack ideal for holding magazines and books during your workout. Many will also appreciate the console towel hook. The console can make a big difference in how comfortable an elliptical is to use, and with features like these, you should be very happy with the Schwinn 431.

Affordably priced:

Deal seekers will be thrilled with the Schwinn 431. This elliptical provides an easy-to-use console, workout tracking software, and a lot of other great features for one low price. If you're shopping for an elliptical but only have a limited budget, the Schwinn 431 may just suit your needs perfectly.

Compact design:

If you're short on space, finding an elliptical that suits your needs can be especially difficult. The Schwinn 431 may just be the answer you're looking for, though. This model is designed to take up significantly less space than the average elliptical, and it also comes with transport wheels which can be very helpful if you need to move the elliptical frequently. If saving space is your number one concern, the Schwinn 431 would be a great choice.

The Bad

Lacking entertainment features:

Although ellipticals don't generally offer a large amount of entertainment features, many come with a built-in audio port and speakers for listening to music or audio books during your workouts. The Schwinn 431 does not have these features, so if you frequently listen to music while working out, it may be worth investigating other ellipticals better suited to your needs.

Warranties could use improvement:

The Schwinn 431 leaves something to be desired when it comes to warranties, as it doesn't even offer a lifetime frame warranty — a common feature among the best elliptical machines — and the parts and labor warranties don't make it beyond six months. For those looking for an elliptical with really solid warranties to put their minds at ease, there are better options out there than the Schwinn 431.

Can't incline or adjust stride:

The ability to incline the elliptical is a nice feature because it can really help you get the most out of your workout. And being able to adjust the stride length to suit your liking can play a huge role in how comfortable you feel on the machine. If these features are at the top of your priority list, the Schwinn 431 isn't the right machine for you. There are plenty of other ellipticals that offer these options, but sadly the Schwinn 431 isn't one of them.

No in-home assembly option:

For some people, assembling an elliptical sounds like an impossible task. Many companies are aware of this and will offer an in-house assembly option to assist these customers. Though this service comes with an additional fee, it may be worth it for some. Unfortunately, Schwinn does not provide this service, and this could deter some people from purchasing their products. However, if you feel comfortable assembling an elliptical on your own, the Schwinn 431 is still a strong choice.
