Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike Review
The Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike is an inexpensive exercise machine that delivers a solid workout experience in a lightweight package. If you're looking to get some indoors exercise without a big investment, this bike is one of the best options available.
High value for money
The Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike has one of the lowest sticker prices around, yet it delivers all the basic features you need to cycle yourself to better fitness. The bike has a control console with an LCD display to help you monitor your workout statistics. Adjust the bike’s easy-turn resistance dial at any time during your workout to raise or lower the pedal resistance and get just the kind of workout intensity you’re after. The Stamina® 1300 is also outfitted with an oversize, adjustable-height seat to fit all but the tallest riders. While the bike is relatively lightweight at 48 pounds fully assembled, it’s also very stable on the ground, with a rider-weight rating of 250 pounds. The Stamina® 1300 is a great option for apartments and tight living arrangements because it’s much easier to move around and store than most other exercise bikes on the market.
The LCD workout monitor is a helpful addition to the Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike, especially when you consider the bike’s low price. The monitor tracks several important workout statistics, including your workout time and your speed, distance, and calorie count. Some other options on the market in the same price range don’t include anything more than a simple mechanical odometer to help you keep track of your riding mileage. Although the monitor resets every time you finish a workout, just keep a pencil and a notebook nearby to keep track of your workout performance over time. Even some exercise bikes at twice the price don’t feature day-to-day performance tracking, so it’s not surprising that the Stamina® 1300 doesn’t come with this capability either.
Magnetic resistance system
The Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike’s magnetic resistance system is another notable feature that helps this bike stand out as a terrific value for money. A magnetic resistance system is a type of no-contact brake that enables easy fine-tuning of pedal resistance. In comparison, direct tension resistance utilizes a tension strap or another direct-contact braking system to provide resistance. This kind of system, which many bikes in this price range utilize, is generally more difficult to control with accuracy and more prone to wear and tear.
Relatively short warranty period
The Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300 Exercise Bike comes with a one-year warranty on the frame and a three-month warranty on mechanical parts, which is substantially less than most full-featured exercise bikes on the market. Given the Stamina® 1300’s relatively low sticker price, however, it’s not altogether surprising that it falls short of other exercise bikes. If a low price is an important factor in your search for an exercise bike, these kinds of warranty terms may be perfectly suited to your expectations. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a little more peace of mind, a moderately priced model like the Schwinn® 125 Upright Bike delivers a five-year frame warranty, a one-year electronics, parts, and brake warranty, and a 90-day labor warranty.
Lacks automated workout programs
The absence of any preprogrammed workout routines is perhaps the biggest omission in the Stamina® Magnetic Upright 1300’s feature list. Automated workout programs are designed to control a bike’s pedal resistance to mimic different cycling courses and various types of road workouts. Many exercise bike users find these kinds of programs to be a lot of fun and a good way to diversify their workout routines. While you can always adjust the 1300’s resistance level by hand to create similar effects, you won’t get the same precision and convenience delivered by models that have full-featured workout capabilities.
