Best Home Security Systems in Indianapolis

Best Overall

Frontpoint Frontpoint is our top pick for nationwide providers. See if it's available in your Indianapolis neighborhood.

Frontpoint is the best home security company nationwide, but how does it stand up to Indianapolis’ local scene? After researching seven of the city’s biggest businesses and scoring each one on a number of criteria (like contract length, customer service, and the quote process), only two had the customer service and reputability chops to earn our recommendation. All in all, Frontpoint is still the quickest and cheapest way to get your home secured, but TNT Alarm and All About Security are great runner-ups.

Home Security Company Reviews

TNT Alarm

(317) 525-8868

TNT Alarm competed ferociously with All About Security (AAS) for our top recommendation — they differed by less than two points in our overall evaluation score. In the end, TNT’s more prominent reputation and excellent customer service gave it just the edge it needed to move ahead.

TNT Alarm is the smallest of our suggested providers, but it has the biggest reputation. We found excellent customer reviews and interaction on to BBB, Angie’s List, and Facebook. (The owner of TNT responds to almost all customer reviews, thanking the complimentary ones and addressing and offering a solution to any negative feedback.) Plus, like AAS and Castlewall, you’ll always be greeted by a human voice when you call. Even if all employees are busy, you won’t wait long for a response, which we can personally attest to.

What about cost? TNT’s cellular monitoring runs $40 per month, which is the most expensive of both our recommendations. However, it’s only $2 more than the cheapest, Castlewall Security. TNT Alarm will lock in your rate at the start of your three-year contract, and during that contract, you’re entitled to a full equipment warranty. Here’s another nice perk: For every new customer that you recommend to TNT, you get a free month’s worth of monitoring.

When it comes to the upfront cost of your equipment, though, TNT is less than helpful. It wouldn’t give us even a ballpark number for a system without an in-depth home evaluation — TNT builds custom systems rather than offering bundles or packages, like Frontpoint. (In fact, neither of our local recommendations offer any sort of equipment bundle.)

All About Security

(317) 559-3500

All About Security (AAS) has two main advantages over the rest of the competition: It offers month-to-month service agreements and a lifetime equipment warranty. What’s more, it undercuts TNT Alarm’s monitoring cost by $1 (when a company offers month-to-month service agreements, it usually makes up for it by raising the monthly payment). So if you aren’t sure that you’ll be living in your current home for more than a year or two, this is the company for you. Be mindful of one thing, though: Depending upon what system setup you’re quoted, you may be in line for up to a $100 installation fee.

Speaking to representatives at AAS, our team was impressed by the timely responses to our voicemails. The employees at AAS are genuinely interested in the safety of their community. Andy from AAS told us “even if you don’t choose us, I’m happy to answer all your security questions”.

As with TNT, AAS couldn’t give us an idea of the upfront equipment cost without a detailed investigation of the home in question because it builds its systems to order. When we asked for a ballpark number, we were denied an answer.

Here’s another thing that confused us. The website states the following in bold letters: “Alarm Monitoring with Mobile Access Starting at *$24.99!” However, each time we called, we were told that cellular monitoring starts at $39. We asked the representative about it, but never got a firm answer. Aside from this conundrum, our overall experience with AAS was friendly and agreeable.

Honorable Mention: Castlewall Security and Video

(317) 218-1007

Not much separates Castlewall from the competition. It charges $38 a month for cellular monitoring (only $2 cheaper than AAS), requires a 36-month contract like TNT. It’s customer service didn’t excite us either. The first time we reached out to Castlewall we left a message and did not hear back for more than 24 hours. We eventually tried again and were greeted by a sales rep who was able to answer our questions.

On the other hand, Castlewall has a great online presence, and boasts an “A+” from the BBB and an “A” from Angie’s List. Thanks to those good marks, we were able to include it in our list as an honorable mention.

Indianapolis Crime Rates and Trends

In Indianapolis, property crime is a big deal — a whopping 94 percent higher than our nation’s average. The most frequent of those crimes is larceny, followed by residential burglaries, vehicle theft, and lastly, business burglaries. However, as we learned in our review of national systems, no one is exempt from from being a victim. Everyone is a potential burglary target, regardless of location, wealth, or belongings. That said, you shouldn’t let statistics scare you into purchasing a system. Rather, consider what would make you feel the most safe — home security is first and foremost about your peace of mind.

False Alarms in Indianapolis

Indianapolis is one of only a few cities that doesn’t require its residents to register their alarm systems. It does, however, prohibit false alarms. You’ll get a free pass for the first one, but after that, fines increase sequentially by $100.

To learn more about how you can prevent false alarms, check out the guide in our national home security review.

The Bottom Line

Best Overall

Frontpoint Frontpoint won the top spot in our review of nationwide providers. Check to see if it's available in your Indianapolis neighborhood.

Frontpoint won our national review, and it’s still the reigning champ in Indianapolis. AAS and TNT Alarms are solid contenders, but can’t compete with Frontpoint’s modern tech, ease of setup, and $34 monthly cellular payment — as long as you can stomach a 36-month agreement, that is. If you don’t plan to live in the same place that long, AAS’ contract-free agreement is a much more attractive option.
