US.jobs Review

US.jobs is run by the National Labor Exchange and provides fantastic resources for veterans or individuals exploring military careers. Because the site limits job postings to those of member employers, however, users miss out on a wider breadth of opportunities.

The Good

Best resources for veterans

US.jobs offers a separate website where you can enter your location and status in the military so the site can match you with relevant jobs. Information is even available on how to use your Military Occupation Classification in your job search. Additional resources are available for employment relocation situations and for making a successful transition from the military to the private sector.

Search career events around the country

The career event search provides links to many types of public and private career events. Job fairs are the most prevalent type of event, but recruitment events for local police and fire units are also included. These events are all searchable by location and often provide web links and cost information.

Great information on jobs within the military career

If you’re deciding between going to college or joining the military, US.jobs is a great place to start your research. Within the Career Research tab is rich information on military life, options, and career tracks within the military. All branches of the military need skilled workers from engineers to communication specialists, and the military hires over 365,000 people each year in over 4,100 job paths. Using US.jobs, you can learn about these roles as you decide where you want to be in the future.

The Bad

Job postings only from member companies

The number of jobs available is limited by the number of member employers on US.jobs. Many of these employers are very large, well-established companies that have ties to the government in some manner. Small businesses, which often have many job opportunities, are unlikely to be members of this site. If you’re looking to work for a small company or a technology-focused start-up, US.jobs is not for you.

Limited keyword search capabilities

The US.jobs search filters are buried under tabs and are difficult to find. This can be frustrating if you’re looking for a very specific type of job. On the flip side, if you’re unsure of what you’re looking for, you run the risk of endless scrolling as you wade through hundreds of listings unsuited for your goals.
