The Good

Most extensive selection of courses in the industry

The Princeton Review’s MCAT Ultimate provides you with comprehensive training for each section of the MCAT. You get 123 hours of live instruction, 128+ live online office hours during your course, and access to more than 350 hours of supplementary online resources. MCAT Ultimate is delivered both online and in Princeton Review classroom locations across the United States and Canada. The MCAT Self-Paced Study course provides you with all the same materials you get as an MCAT Ultimate student, but replaces the 123 hours of live instruction with video lessons covering the very same content. If you’re looking for a little help with the MCAT basics before you continue preparing on your own, consider the Princeton Review MCAT Cram Pack course. In this on-demand course, you get all the materials and lessons in the Self-Paced course, plus access to all live online Psychology/Sociology sessions and live online office hours. Those looking to prepare over winter break should consider the Winter Bootcamp option. It provides the same instruction as the Ultimate course in a shorter time period. The Princeton Review also offers a stand-alone course covering the verbal reasoning section of the test called the MCAT CARS Accelerator. This course includes 15 hours of live online instruction over six class sessions.

Summer training opportunities

Like several other top MCAT prep companies, The Princeton Review offers a summer immersion program designed to provide high-intensity training in all aspects of the MCAT test. As a summer immersion student, you get 370 hours of live instruction and personal coaching over the length of the six-week course. Summer immersion courses are only available in San Diego, California, Austin, Texas, and Orlando, Florida once each summer.

Flexible private tutoring options

The Princeton Review offers the most flexible tutoring options out of all the best MCAT prep companies in the country. Choose a comprehensive prepaid tutoring plan to utilize throughout the length of your Princeton Review course, or go with the pay-as-you-go plan for maximum flexibility. You can even opt for a full tutored course to get one-on-one training in every aspect of the MCAT. In-person tutoring is available in cities around the country, while live online tutoring is a great option no matter where you live.

Lots of practice tests and study aids

All of The Princeton Review’s comprehensive MCAT courses come with an exceptional selection of full-length practice tests, diagnostic exams, practice questions, study guides, and interactive learning tools. Like the other top company in this category, Kaplan, The Princeton Review provides you with access to all materials published by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the MCAT administrator. You also get 11 additional practice tests developed by The Princeton Review. The company goes further than its competition by also providing 15 specialized diagnostic exams designed specifically to identify your personal areas of weakness so you’re able to pursue targeted study and practice. In addition to the practice tests, you get access to over 12,000 sample MCAT questions covering every section of the test, perfect for extra study leading up to test day.

Student satisfaction guaranteed

The Princeton Review stands behind the quality of their instruction by granting all MCAT prep students in comprehensive courses the right to retake a course for free for any reason, no questions asked. Additionally, if you complete all of your course requirements before taking the official MCAT test and your score doesn’t improve, you’re entitled to a full refund. Your score improvement is based on a recent official MCAT test score or the first practice test score you receive at the beginning of your course. The Princeton Review ranks alongside Altius Test Prep and Kaplan as the industry’s best performers in this category.

Many free MCAT events

The Princeton Review is pretty unique among MCAT prep companies in the number of free informational and educational events they hold online and in locations around the country. Attending one or more of these events is a great way to learn more about the quality of the company’s instructors and methods, and to learn more about the MCAT test. Common free events include online and on-site practice tests, strategy sessions, and workshops that cover effective study methods, among other options.

Solid network of classroom locations

The Princeton Review offers classroom courses in 28 states, from Washington and California in the west all the way to Maryland and Florida in the east. Although they don’t quite match the 43-state network of classroom locations operated by Kaplan, The Princeton Review gives you more in-person study options than any other company in the industry. To find course locations near you, check out The Princeton Review’s course locator tool.

The Bad

Lacks a verbal reasoning question bank

The CARS section of the MCAT is considered by many students to be the most challenging on the test. Thus, it’s important to dedicate sufficient time to developing your language skills, learning test strategies, and practicing sample questions. While The Princeton Review offers 12 full-length practice tests and 15 MCAT diagnostic exams, which combine to provide you with a lot of CARS practice, the company doesn’t offer a dedicated question bank for CARS questions. However, they do offer a separate CARS Accelerator course for those who want extra practice.
