The Good

Huge variety of degree subjects:

No other quality online school in the country comes close to matching the number of bachelor’s degree programs that Bellevue University offers. Choose from degrees in a variety of business disciplines, several options in information technology, and a few different programs in the healthcare field. Many Bellevue bachelor’s programs are difficult or impossible to find in an online format elsewhere. Software development, art management, and cybersecurity are rare, while programs like banking operations, game studies, and international security are simply unavailable anywhere else. This great variety of programs is especially valuable to students who aren’t completely sure of their preferred major. If you discover your interests change after starting a Bellevue program, you have a good chance of finding a more suitable program without changing schools.

Several distance tutoring options available:

Bellevue University offers online students some excellent free tutoring options through the peer tutoring center on campus. Tutors are available every weekday in a variety of subjects, including accounting, statistics, finance, economics, and algebra. Distance tutoring sessions can be carried out on the telephone, on Skype, or by email. To schedule a session, simply log in to the tutoring scheduler, choose the subject you need tutoring in, and note the type of technology you want to use. Your tutor will meet you online at the agreed time. Free tutoring services are not always available as part of an online bachelor’s program, so Bellevue University stands out for offering this great student resource.

Many cohort-based degree programs available:

Bellevue University is one of the few online bachelor’s programs to offer degrees in a cohort-based format. If you choose a cohort-based degree, you share all of your core-subject courses with the same group of classmates. This type of program is meant to foster collaboration and communication skills, and to help you build close relationships with your online classmates. Although not all students may be interested in this type of program, it is a great option for those who are.

Accelerated degree completion options:

If you already have an associate’s degree or if you have completed about two years of study at another four-year university, you may be eligible for a Bellevue University accelerated bachelor’s program. These programs are designed to allow working students to complete a bachelor’s degree in as little as 16 months, a great time-saver compared to standard two-year degree completion programs offered at other top online universities. Out of the 38 online bachelor’s subjects offered at Bellevue University, 21 are delivered in an accelerated format. Many of these are also available in a cohort-based format.

Good alumni services:

All Bellevue University alumni are entitled to a variety of services through the Bellevue Alumni Office. Alumni enjoy career development and job search services, discounted tuition rates on continuing education courses, lifetime access to library services, and other valuable perks. As a Bellevue alum, you also have access to the university’s online alumni networking sites and periodic in-person and online networking events, helping you keep in touch with classmates and develop new professional relationships.

Decent tuition rates:

With tuition rates of $375 per credit, Bellevue University ranks just behind the most affordable online bachelor’s programs in the country. Schools like the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Westfield State University charge tuition of around $250 per credit, about one-third cheaper than Bellevue. However, Bellevue University offers many more degree options and also ranks in the very top tier of online programs in the country. In fact, compared to other top-tier programs, tuition at Bellevue University is quite affordable.

The Bad

Student services rating could use improvement:

According to the most recent survey of online bachelor’s programs by U.S. News & World Report, Bellevue University has a student services score that places the school just inside the top 50 programs. The U.S. News & World Report student services score is a measure of the quantity and quality of services that students have access to. A full 50% of the score is derived from student debt levels at graduation. Bellevue’s relatively poor showing on this score, despite its solid academic and technological services, suggests that Bellevue students graduate with relatively high debt levels. It would be nice to see Bellevue put more effort into financial aid counseling services for its online students. Better financial aid counseling helps you locate and pursue grant and scholarship programs, allowing you to reduce your reliance on loans to meet school costs.
