Arkansas State University Review
Affordable tuition rates and well-ranked advanced degrees help put Arkansas State University's online programs on the map.
Top ranked online graduate business program:
According to the most recent rankings of online education by U.S. News & World Report, Arkansas State University (ASU) has a top 50 ranking for its online graduate business degree program. It currently ranks at number 14. Additionally, the university itself is ranked by the publication as the number 53 regional university in the South. You can consider multiple ranking titles such as these a reassuring sign that the school provides quality online education.
Low tuition rates:
Tuition rates vary by degree level and also depending on the exact degree program, but all rates are considerably lower than most other top online colleges. As an online student you have access to financial aid, and flexible payment options are available to help you further manage costs. Tuition for both in-state and out-of-state students is charged at the same rate, which is favorable for online students who are often dispersed across the nation. However, if you are a non-U.S. resident, tuition rates are higher.
Many graduate education degrees:
A wide variety of online graduate education degrees are offered through Arkansas State University. The different online degrees available from ASU include a master’s of science in education with three specialization areas to choose from, a master’s of science in education in special education with three specializations, and a post-master’s EdS education specialist degree with five different specialization areas. Graduate education degrees are not offered at every online college, and ASU’s are not only well-ranked but cover a variety of specializations.
Reputation needs improvement:
Even though Arkansas State University is a major state school, their overall reputation runs lower than most large universities. The school has some respectable rankings from U.S. News & World Report, but ASU was not listed in Princeton Review’s Best 378 Colleges of 2014, or in Forbes’ America’s Top Colleges ranking. Although the school does have a lot going for it, there is still work to be done before it is considered among the top-tier universities.
Bachelor's degree completion option:
The school offers an online bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with five different concentration options, but it only has a degree completion option. A bachelor’s degree completion may not suit everyone’s online education goals, since it does require you to already have a substantial number of transfer credits earned at a previous college or university. If you have a variety of credits that span a number of fields, transferring your credits to a degree completion program can be a great asset. But if you’re an entering freshman, this type of degree won’t work.
