Brandman University Review
Brandman University is a private, non-profit school offering a top 10 ranked online bachelor's program and online graduate degrees. Brandman University also operates physical campus locations throughout California and Washington for a potential hybrid experience.
Top 50 online bachelor's program
Brandman University earns the number 41 spot on the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Bachelor’s program rankings. There are 160 online bachelor’s programs ranked by U.S. News & World Report, and cracking the top 50 is a significant achievement. Brandman offers 10 different bachelor’s degree options, which is a large selection considering most other online schools only offer three or four bachelor’s programs. While their online bachelor’s degrees are the highlight, Brandman University also makes an appearance in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for best online graduate business program and for best online graduate education program.
Easy to transfer credits
Brandman University has developed partnerships with community colleges and other college institutions in several states including California, Texas, and Washington to make course credits more easily transferable. Transferring course credits from any regionally accredited college, university, or community college can be difficult or even impossible. Many schools put a strict limit on the number of transfer credits or make the entire transfer process unnecessarily difficult, but Brandman stands out as an online school that facilitates an easy transfer credit processes.
Take on-campus classes as online student
At Brandman University you can earn your entire degree online, but if you happen to live near any of the many campus locations in California and Washington, you have the flexibility to also take some on-campus classes. Many online colleges lock you into status as an online only student, and some online schools don’t even have the capability to offer on-campus options for online students. Brandman University offers online students the flexibility of taking both online and on-campus options without requiring a petition process or extensive paperwork.
No name recognition or reputation
Although Brandman University earns several mentions from U.S News & World Report for online education, the school doesn’t make an appearance on any other respected education rankings, such as The Princeton Review’s list of best colleges, or in Forbes’ America’s Top Colleges. Outside of rankings and accolades, a weak reputation can also negatively impact student ties and future networking capabilities. For example, Brandman University has a LinkedIn group for students and alumni with only a couple hundred members, which is miniscule compared to most other online colleges.
Only a five-year track record
It’s impressive that Brandman University received a high ranking from U.S News & World Report for their bachelor’s program, considering they have only been established as an online college for five short years. However, five years isn’t a significant amount of time compared to the many other online colleges that have a longer running history. Typically, the longer a school is around, the stronger the reputation and the more recognizable it becomes. Brandman University is certainly a strong newcomer to the world of online colleges according to one ranking, but a longer track record is needed to more accurately assess the quality of their programs.
