Lawrence Technological University Review
Lawrence Technological University is a private school that offers several online bachelor's and master's degrees in high-demand fields.
Top 100 online bachelor's program
According to the most recent U.S. News & World Report, Lawrence Technological University (LTU) has the number 81 ranked online bachelor’s program. LTU offers two bachelor’s of science degrees with majors that include business administration and information technology, and scored exceptionally high for online student engagement. Many online colleges only offer majors in very broad and general areas such as liberal arts or psychology, so it is noteworthy that LTU offers such specialized and in-demand program areas at the bachelor’s level. You should keep in mind that this is only a bachelor’s degree completion program though.
Decent graduate rankings
LTU was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report with the honors of several online graduate program rankings. The school most recently ranked at number 17 for its online graduate engineering program and number 125 for its online graduate business program. All of these rankings, coupled with the top 100 online bachelor’s degree rating, speak to Lawrence Technological University’s commitment to quality education.
Take online or on-campus classes
At LTU there is no real distinction between online and traditional campus students. You can take classes entirely online, take on-campus classes, or even take hybrid classes that combine both online and in-person class components. Some online colleges restrict their online students from having access to campus classes or resources, but at LTU you have the choice of any class delivery mode and you do not have to seek any special approval to switch from one mode to another. The only limitation is the main campus location is in Southfield, Michigan, which may make it inconvenient, if not impossible, for some online students to make an in-person appearance.
Bachelor's degree completion only
There are two excellent majors for bachelor’s degree students at LTU, but they are only degree completion programs and are not accommodating to first-time degree-seeking students. For the two bachelor’s degree completion options at LTU, you should already have an associate’s degree or have two years’ worth of college coursework in a business program. If you have coursework in a field unrelated to business, or if you do not have any college credits to your name yet, the online bachelor’s program at LTU may not be an option for you.
Comparatively high tuition
The tuition rates for undergraduate and graduate level credits are nearly the same, which is unusual since bachelor’s level credits almost always are significantly lower in price than graduate level credits. Additionally, the tuition rates at Lawrence Tech run higher than most all other top online colleges. You may be lucky enough to have an employer helping with your tuition costs, or you may rely on financial aid, but no matter which way you look at it, the rates at Lawrence Tech are disproportionately high.
School is not broadly known
Lawrence Technological University consistently receives recognition from publications such as U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review, yet the name recognition of the school lags behind many other top rated online colleges. The fact that it is a small, private school that offers only specialized degrees may account for this. Lawrence Technological University does make an effort to partner with firms that hire LTU alumni, but the school’s Midwest location in Southfield, Michigan, may limit the scope and distance of these efforts.
