According to the methodology of U.S. News & World Report, Pace University is one of the the best places to earn an online bachelor's degree. A number three ranking is impressive considering that U.S. News & World Report surveys 860 accredited schools that offer bachelor's degree programs and then ranks the top 160. Additionally, Pace University has a number 16 ranked online graduate computer and information technology degree, which is also an impressively high standing. Rankings don't mean everything, but such a high showing certainly deserves attention.
There are four different bachelor's degree majors offered, including business studies, nursing, professional communication studies, and professional technology studies. These programs are offered through iPace, which is the online bachelor's degree completion program at Pace University. All degree programs can be completed entirely online, except for the nursing program, which understandably requires three to four in-person sessions per semester. Bachelor's degree completion programs are slightly different than a traditional online bachelor's degree because they require students to have already completed the equivalent of two years' worth of credits prior to enrolling.
Flexibility is the number one convenience of online education, and Pace recognizes this by allowing online students to start their studies in the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Year-round start dates let online students get a start on their studies sooner rather than later, and prospective students do not have to wait around for once-a-year start dates to become a new student. Once a prospective student applies and submits all application requirements, an admissions decision is usually made within a very short time frame, about seven to ten weekdays.
Because Pace University offers online bachelor's degree completion programs, it is expected that students need to transfer a large amount of credits to put towards their Pace degree. Currently, Pace University accepts up to 68 credits from a two-year accredited school, and up to a maximum of 90 credits earned at a four-year accredited school, given that the credits satisfy your current Pace major requirements. Keep in mind that there are minimum grade requirements and a time limit of 15 years for credits to be acceptable. About half of your degree needs to be completed at Pace, and all students are required to complete a minimum of 32 credits.
The cost per credit at Pace is on the higher side when compared to other top online colleges, plus there are a number of other fees that can add up as well. Pace is a private school, which can explain the higher tuition costs, but keep in mind that online students enrolled in the iPace program are eligible for federal financial aid. A number of fees that recur on a semester basis can also really add up, and it is quite common to be assessed fees, such as a technology fee, a proctored exam fee, and possible course fees depending on the exact courses you take.
While a number one ranking from U.S. News & World Report is an achievement, Pace University has yet to make a showing on any other respected list of education rankings or awards. Pace University is a well-established, traditional campus university with a long history, but it has never gained any strong reputation or national recognition. For some online students, earning a diploma with a name that carries weight is important, but for others, the opportunity to complete or continue their education with the unique programs offered at Pace is just the right fit.
Pace's technology services for students are curiously lacking in comparison to other online schools. It's especially odd given the fact that Pace's computer information and technology graduate degree programs are ranked so high by U.S. News & World Report. If you attend Pace online, you have no access to 24/7 live tech support so it might not be so easy for you to complete important late-night work online.
