Post University Review
Post University is a private school in Connecticut with well-respected bachelor's and graduate programs. Courses are taught using eight-week modules, allowing degrees to be earned in as little as 14-24 months.
Access to an online MBA:
Post University was founded as a business school and has been offering online degrees since 1996. The online graduate business degree program at Post University has also gained recognition from U.S. News & World Report and is placed at number 136 in the list of the top 222 online graduate business programs. The school offers an online MBA degree and seven different concentrations within the degree, so you can focus your MBA studies on what best fits your personal interests and career goals. Admission into the MBA program does not require you to take the GMAT exam, and instead Post University looks at an applicant’s undergraduate background, work experience, and career ambition.
Multi-term academic year:
There are six different eight-week terms scheduled each academic year at Post University, which include start dates in July, September, November, January, March, and May. Having multiple terms like this gives you much more flexibility not only with your initial start date as a new student, but also gives you greater choice in the timing and number of the terms you enroll in each year. Many traditional and online colleges only offer fall and spring terms which can sometimes make it take longer to complete your degree, and you could even have to sit out an entire year until your program’s start date rolls around in the fall, but at Post University you can avoid these obstacles and start studying sooner.
Flexible credit transfer policy:
Transfer credit allowances can vary widely from school to school, but Post University has one of the most liberal transfer credit policies around. You can transfer up to 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree or up to nine credits towards a master’s degree. Outside of accredited course credits, you can also receive credits for military and life experience, or credits from the CLEP, ACE, or DANTES programs. If you want to have all of your hard work from previous classes and programs count, Post University is likely to accept all or most of your past credits, however, this is subject to review by the school and may not be guaranteed.
Low graduation rates for bachelor's program:
Enrollment and retention numbers both run high for Post University’s online bachelor’s program, but this program does have a low graduation rate, implying that many students are taking longer than normal to complete their degree. The online bachelor’s program has consistently low three-year graduation rates, ranging from 19% to 24% over the last three academic years. Graduation rates for graduate level programs are much higher so the trend may be blamed on unmotivated first-time degree-seeking students. Graduate students tend to have more career incentive and previous academic experience to motivate them to keep up with their studies.
Post University has received a couple of recognitions for their online programs from U.S. News & World Report, but has not gained mentions from other popular academic rankings such as Princeton Review’s Best 380 Colleges of 2014 or Forbes’ list of America’s Top Colleges. Reputation can also be tied to a school’s networking power and Post University lags behind in this area as well. The school has a LinkedIn group of only a couple hundred members, while more recognized online schools have numbers near or well above a thousand. The school’s online programs have fairly large enrollment numbers, so it is odd to not see the power of numbers make more of a name for the school, whether in rankings or social networks.
