Top 100 in national rankings:

In the most recent rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report, Southeast Missouri State University is recognized in three different program areas. Both the online bachelor's program and online graduate education program are ranked within the top 75 of their respective categories, while the online graduate business program ranks in the top 100. The majority of programs offered at Southeast Missouri State are in the areas of business, education, or undergraduate studies, and it reflects well on the school to be recognized in each area. No matter which area of study you choose, you can be sure that the online education experience will be top quality.

Variety of bachelor's degrees:

Southeast Missouri State currently offers eight different choices of major within their online bachelor's degree program. While many online colleges only offer one or two degree options, Southeast Missouri State's degree options include business, nursing, technology management, criminal justice, social studies, and a few others. Additionally, if you are interested in multiple areas of study, the school offers both general studies and interdisciplinary studies options which allow you to tailor your classes and plan of study to your specific career goals. Access to a decent selection of majors is beneficial whether you're dead set on a major, or you want the flexibility to change as you progress through your studies.

Excellent online advising tools:

The online advising center provides online students with a variety of tools and services that can really help you stay connected even if you are far from campus. Every online student at Southeast Missouri State is assigned an individual academic advisor who consults with you each semester and is your on-campus liaison. Southeast Missouri State gives online students the ability to connect with advisors over Skype, which is a rare offering among online colleges. There are also additional online advising center tools such as a transfer credit conversion tool, GPA calculator, live chat, and others which give you access to all the same services available to on-campus students.

Reputation could be better:

While the school has received some national recognition for their online education programs from U.S. News & World Report, Southeast Missouri State's overall reputation is not as established as top-tier universities. Many other top online colleges have made the rankings and awards lists from The Princeton Review, Forbes, and others, but Southeast Missouri State lacks in this area. National rankings are only one indication of a school's quality and prestige, so not being recognized by these publications should not necessarily be a deal breaker. The school still boasts respectable graduate rates, has a sizeable online community of alumni, and can be a strong choice for your online education.
