University of Nebraska - Lincoln Review
The University of Nebraska at Lincoln has utilized more than a decade of online education to establish a top-ranked online MBA program and a unique pair of online doctorates in education.
Top 10 online business degree program
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) offers a well-respected and well-ranked online MBA degree. The school’s online graduate business program ranks at number six in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings. Additionally, the publication ranks UNL at number three as one of the best online graduate business programs for veterans. The online MBA program offers multiple concentrations, including accounting, finance, international business, and agribusiness. The degree is delivered online in a modular schedule, which gives you enough flexibility to maintain your career or family life while attending a nationally recognized program.
Variety of graduate degre programs
There are over 20 different online master’s degrees available at UNL in a number of different fields. Many online colleges only offer a select few master’s degree options, but UNL has a selection that spans many fields and includes advanced doctoral degrees. Architecture, math, education, nutrition, journalism, and business are some of the areas of study, and many of these programs also have multiple areas of concentration, allowing you to specialize in the area you are most interested in.
Access to doctoral degrees in education
The school offers four different online graduate education degrees, including two doctoral degree programs. An EdD, or doctorate of education, is geared towards practice and application of educational theory and research, while a PhD, or doctor of philosophy, is considered more research oriented. The University of Nebraska – Lincoln offers an education studies in leadership and higher education degree as either an EdD or PhD, and a P-12 Educational Administration degree. Online doctoral degrees are hard to come by, and it is even more difficult to have access to these two specific degree options, helping UNL really stand out.
Full access to university resources
As an online student at UNL you have full, remote access to all library resources including both electronic and print resources that can be delivered to your home or desktop. Additionally, librarian instruction and reference librarian assistance are available to you virtually. Many online colleges provide online students to access to electronic and digital library materials, but access to physical resources as a remote, online student is unique at UNL. Your use of library and academic materials may vary by your degree program, but rich resources like these should not be neglected.
Only one bachelor's degree option
The only bachelor’s degree offered at UNL is actually a bachelor’s degree completion program in applied science. This is an excellent degree option if you have an interest in agricultural and environmental science, and if you have already completed 64 credits or more to apply as transfer credit. However, if your areas of interest fall outside this one specific major, or you do not have the equivalent of two years’ worth of college credits, this option does not work for you. There are many other online colleges that offer a bachelor’s degree in general or liberal studies, which can accommodate a wide variety of subject areas and career paths.
Undergraduate exams may be required on campus
Certain undergraduate courses may require you to take exams on campus, which can be an inconvenience for online students who are not used to having to travel to campus. If you plan to pursue an online bachelor’s degree with UNL, it is best that you live within reasonable traveling distance to the school’s main campus in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the graduate course level, however, almost all of the courses have exams administered online.
