Arkansas State University

Arkansas State University offers one of the most budget-friendly online MBA programs around. The two-year program can be completed entirely online, including live exams, but international students are not accepted, which makes the student pool less diversified.

The Good

Low-cost tuition

Arkansas State University’s (ASU) online MBA program requires the completion of 27 credits with tuition rates of $467 per credit hour. The total estimated cost of tuition is half the price of other schools that offer similar programs. Whether an employer is covering your tuition or you’re paying out of pocket, ASU is a great choice for both its affordability and academic strengths.

Supply chain managment concentration

While ASU’s online MBA program covers all foundational areas of business, you can also specialize in supply chain management. This concentration requires 12 additional hours of graduate-level courses. Since this is the only official concentration available, other areas of interest can be pursued by directing your electives toward a particular area of study.

Remotely proctored exams

Students have the convenience of taking exams from home by installing a remote, web-proctoring system on a computer. Many other online MBA programs require students to travel to campus for exams or make arrangements with a proctored exam location. The technology used at ASU is a combined webcam, microphone, and fingerprint reader that capture sound and a 360-degree view of the student during an exam. The video is reviewed by faculty to ensure academic integrity.

The Bad

Not available to international students

As ASU’s online MBA program is only available to U.S. citizens, you may want to take note that your network of classmates will not include international peers. If you have any interest in international business or seek to build global contacts, the online MBA program at ASU may not be your best option.

Online application could be less clunky

Rather than completing one single application, prospective students must apply to both the general graduate school and MBA program. Additionally, the online application form has a dated feel to it, making it a bit difficult to navigate. For example, you must advance through several pages to drill down to the degree and program type you want to apply to, and it is easy to inadvertently select the on-campus MBA program. It would be more reassuring to see a stronger, clearer web presence from a school that delivers entire online degree programs.
