The Good

Six specializations available

While other online MBA programs typically offer three concentrations, Auburn University offers twice as much. Areas of emphasis include marketing, finance, management, information systems, supply chain management, and business analytics. As part of the program, you have four free-choice elective classes, enabling you to focus on the area that is most appealing and beneficial to your career goals.

Affordable tuition

The MBA program at Auburn University not only offers a high-quality degree and rigorous coursework, but it is also available at one of the most affordable rates around. Currently, students pay about $775 per credit with 36 total credits required to graduate, making the estimated tuition cost at Auburn much lower than similar online MBA programs.

Dual business degree options

While enrolled in the online MBA program, you can also complete a Management Information Systems (MSIS) or MSBA-Finance degree. All classes for either degree are entirely online, and earning two degrees at the same time reduces the number of overall credits you need to complete. The dual-degree options can be a great way to satisfy your interest in multiple areas of business, and can help develop a strong foundation that looks great on a resume.

The Bad

Cannot apply directly online

Applying to the online MBA program at Auburn University involves a two-step process. You must first complete a general online application for the Auburn University Graduate School. Then, you must mail in your paper application and supplementary materials including essays, transcripts, GMAT scores, letters of recommendation, and your resume directly to the MBA office. Other schools that offer online MBA programs require one simple, online application form, which by comparison makes the application process at Auburn more cumbersome than most.

Three-day campus visit required

Toward the end of your online MBA program, you are required to visit campus for a one-time, three-day session that involves a final case-study presentation. Many other online schools require either multiple, regular sessions or time-consuming week-long sessions. Auburn’s on-campus requirement is relatively less burdensome, but if you’re looking for a program that is completely online, a campus visit may be a deal breaker.
