Petplan USA Review
Petplan USA offers three pet insurance policies with high coverage limits for all types of emergencies and some of the best discounts in the industry. Customers looking for comprehensive protection may be disappointed by their lack of wellness coverage, however.
High coverage limits
Depending on which plan you choose, Petplan USA pays up to $22,000 per year for any medical treatment your pet needs. This is among the highest annual limits in the pet insurance industry and is ideal for multi-pet households or for owners who want especially high protection. Even Petplan’s Bronze policy, which is their most affordable, provides $10,000 of coverage for veterinary treatment. In addition to the traditional coverage for accidents and illnesses, Petplan’s policies also come with additional coverage for things like advertising and reward money if your pet is lost or stolen. What’s more, these things don’t count against the annual limits for medical treatment.
No copay option
Like many other pet insurance companies, Petplan USA gives you the option to choose your copay amount but, unlike most competitors, Petplan also gives you the option to not have a copay at all. Keep in mind that choosing this option means your premiums will be more expensive, but it’s still something to consider if you don’t want to be stuck paying for the vet bills if an emergency arises. If you do choose to have a copay, you can decide whether you’d like to pay 10% or 20% of the veterinary fees.
Covers non-routine dental care
Though Petplan USA doesn’t pay for routine dental cleanings, they cover certain non-routine dental procedures. For example, broken teeth resulting from an accident is covered under Petplan’s policy. If you aren’t sure whether or not the dental procedure your dog or cat needs is considered non-routine, you can always contact Petplan USA.
Nice variety of discounts
Petplan USA offers several different ways to save on your pet insurance policy, including a 5% discount just for purchasing online. They also have an excellent multi-pet discount of 10% for each pet enrolled beyond the first. If your dog works in medical services or if you’re in the military, you can take another 10% off your policy premium. Veterinary professionals are eligible for a 15% savings, which is among the largest discounts in the pet insurance industry. In addition, Petplan insurance can be given to employees as an employee benefit along with a 10% discount. Discounts like these are very hard to come by.
Vacation cancellation coverage
If a pet’s sudden illness or injury interrupts or cancels a trip, Gold plan members are reimbursed up to $1,000 for any non-refundable trip costs. This kind of extra coverage isn’t offered by every pet insurance provider, but there’s no denying its usefulness since having a sick or injured pet is stressful enough without having to worry about paying for a canceled trip. This will be especially appealing if you own a pet that frequently or even occasionally gets ill.
Doesn't cover wellness treatments
Petplan USA provides excellent coverage for emergencies, but they don’t offer any sort of benefits for routine and wellness care such as vaccines. They aren’t the only pet insurance provider to exclude these types of treatments from their coverage; however, there are several other companies that enable customers to purchase wellness coverage as an optional add-on to their standard policy. If you’re looking for this level of comprehensive pet health protection, companies like Embrace are going to be better choices for you.
