Amazon has deemed Prime Day 2019 a big success, despite a warehouse worker strike that made headlines in the days before the company’s big sale. Over 175 million items were purchased during the two-day event according to a release by the company – sales surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday, combined.

Thanks in part to steep discounts on Amazon devices, millions of homes across the world became smarter. Top selling deals in this category included the iRobot Roomba 690 Robot Vacuum, MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener Chamberlain MYQ-G0301, and Amazon Smart Plugs – all of which we included in our roundup of Prime Day smart home deals.
If you didn’t get your hands on these during Prime Day, you can still buy them and other essentials for building out your smart home on Amazon. To learn all about home automation, check out our smart home resources guide.
According to our porch pirating survey, more than ⅓ of U.S. adults (34%) have had a package stolen from their porch, or know someone who has. Yet more than half (59%) of Americans said they have never owned a home security system.
However, Prime Day saw an increase in home security purchases on the site. Twice as many Ring and Blink devices were purchased this year than in 2018 when comparing two-day periods. This makes sense, since our survey revealed that 33% of Americans said video surveillance was the most important feature of a home security system.
If you’re one of the 78% of Americans who are at least “a little concerned” about being burglarized, check out our resources about battling porch pirates, the best video doorbells and the best home security cameras.
Prime Day 2019 also saw the busiest days ever for Amazon Prime membership signups. More customers joined the service on July 15 than any other day in the company’s history, and July 16 was a close second. Prime membership comes with a ton of perks that offer pretty unbeatable value, so it’s understandable that so many people wanted in on the action.
