Net10 Review

With everything from unlimited family plans to affordable pay-as-you-go minutes, Net10 has something to tempt every cell phone user. Some of their high-end plans may get a little pricey, but the entry-level plans are among the most affordable in the industry.

The Good

Family plans

Net10 offers a number of family plans designed to support up to four people. All of these are monthly plans and come with unlimited talk, text, and data for a flat rate. Family plans aren’t all that common in the prepaid cell phone industry, but they’re very cost-effective for smaller families who want a quality plan without many restrictions. You don’t have to pay an activation fee, either. And because there are no contracts, if you need to upgrade your plan to add another member of the family, you can do so quickly and easily.

Excellent cell phone selection

With the option to bring your own device or purchase a new phone from Net10’s extensive collection, you won’t have any trouble finding a model you like. They offer everything from flip phones to the latest Android and iPhones. BlackBerrys are available as well. If you’re thinking about getting a family plan, check out one of the many family phone bundles, which come with up to four phones. There’s also the option to use your old phone if you don’t find a model you like or if you’d rather save the money, and it doesn’t matter what network the phone initially came from as long as it’s compatible with Net10.

Affordable per-minute rates

With Net10’s pay-as-you-go plans, you purchase a certain number of minutes for a one-time fee that ends up coming out to about $0.07 to $0.10 per minute. This is very affordable, considering some other prepaid phone companies charge you up to $0.33 per minute. For those who only use their phones occasionally, choosing a Net10 pay-as-you-go plan is a great option. You get the minutes you need at an affordable price without having to pay for the extra you don’t use.

Save money with auto-refill

Certain Net10 prepaid plans give you the opportunity to save $5 on your monthly bill by enrolling in their Auto-Refill program. All you have to do is register your credit or debit card online and, when it comes time to pay for the next month’s service, your account is automatically charged. Many companies give you the opportunity to enroll in a auto-refill program but don’t give you any deals for doing so. This is an easy way to help bring down the costs of your prepaid cell phone plan and is definitely worth considering if you choose to go with a Net10 plan that offers this deal.

The Bad

Unlimited plans can get expensive

Net10 does have some reasonably priced unlimited plans but, as the amount of full-speed data goes up, so does the cost. In order to get 5 GB of high-speed data, you’re looking at paying around $75 per month, which may be out of some people’s price range. If you’re willing to settle for slower data speeds, though, you shouldn’t have a problem getting an unlimited plan from Net10 at a more affordable price.

Can't send or receive video messages

Although Net10 phones can send and receive traditional text and picture messages, video messaging isn’t available with any of their plans. This shouldn’t pose a huge inconvenience to the majority of cell phone users. If it’s important to you, Cricket and Boost Mobile offer similar services to Net10, but you can also send video messages from their phones.
