Capital One Spark Cash for Business Review

The Capital One Spark Cash for Business card is a simple, straightforward business credit card that rewards you with an unlimited 2% cash back on all your purchases. If you spend $4,500 or more within the first three months, you also score a $500 sign-up bonus. While the card doesn’t offer an introductory APR and its interest rate is 20.99%, it makes up for it by forgoing transfer and foreign transaction fees. It’s a good card for businesses with high spending, as well as business travelers who are often out of the country.

Who Should Get Capital One Spark Cash for Business?

Best for: Business owners who love simplicity. With the Capital One Spark Cash for Business credit card, you earn 2% cash back on every purchase, so you don’t have to track categories, shop at particular stores, or limit how much you spend. You also avoid costly transfer and foreign transaction fees.

Not for: Applicants with less-than-perfect credit. If you don’t have an excellent credit level (800 or above), you may not qualify for this card. If you don’t plan on using the card often, you may also not like the annual fee that comes along with it, as it can easily wipe out your cash back savings.

Main Benefits

2% cash back on all purchases

With the Capital One Spark Cash for Business credit card, you earn 2% cash back on all your purchases, with no caps or limits. If your company charges $125,000 per month to the card, that translates into $2,500 in cash back going right back in your pocket. Unlike some cards, all purchases qualify, so you don’t have to track categories or shop at certain stores to benefit from the cash back rewards.

No transfer or foreign transaction fees

Not having to pay transfer or foreign transaction fees can save you a lot of money, depending on how you use your card. As transfer fees are generally 3%, using this card to transfer a balance of $50,000 saves you $1,500 in fees compared to many other cards. If you travel outside of the country often, you’ll save again by not having to pay foreign transaction fees with every purchase, which generally equals around 3% of a transaction.

$500 sign-up bonus

As a new Capital One Spark Cash for Business cardholder, you can earn a $500 sign-up bonus if you charge at least $4,500 in purchases to your new card within three months of the account opening date. If you earn the bonus, you’ll see it applied to your rewards balance within two billing cycles.

Possible Drawbacks

$95 annual fee

While the Capital One Spark Cash for Business has a lot going for it, the card also comes with a $95 annual fee that’s assessed after the first year. If you don’t use the card enough, you may not earn enough cash back to offset this annual charge.

Requires excellent credit

If you’ve made a late payment, don’t have a lengthy credit history, or have defaulted on a loan, you may not have the excellent credit level that’s required to qualify for this card.

Capital One Spark Cash for Business Compared to Chase Ink Business Unlimited

While the Capital One Spark Cash for Business card offers more cash back per dollar than the Chase Ink Business Unlimited card, the latter has a smaller spend requirement before you earn the $500 sign-up bonus. Chase Ink Business Unlimited also offers a 0% introductory APR for 12 months. After that, your interest rate could be as low as 14.74%, beating out Capital One’s 20.99%.

Another benefit of the Chase Ink Business Unlimited is that it has no annual fee, so that’s a savings of $95 per year. If you’re a frequent, high-spending credit card user, the Capital One Spark Cash for Business credit card is the better choice because it offers a higher cash back percentage. However, if you don’t think you’ll use the card very often, you’ll more likely appreciate the annual savings that come with signing up for the Chase Ink Business Unlimited card.

How to Earn Rewards

It’s never been easier to earn perks on your everyday purchases. With Capital One Spark Cash for Business, you can earn rewards through:

  • 2% unlimited cash back on all your purchases, no matter where you shop
