Who Should Get The World of Hyatt Credit Card?

Best for: The World of Hyatt Credit Card is a must-have for travelers who are loyal to the Hyatt brand. With every purchase you make at Hyatt hotels and anywhere else, you’ll earn points that you can later redeem for free stays. You’ll also enjoy automatic Discoverist status for extra perks and avoid foreign transaction fees for your out-of-country adventures.

Not for: If you like having options when you travel, including your choice of hotels, the World of Hyatt Credit Card might not be right for you. Any points you earn can only be used for Hyatt stays, and you’ll earn them at a much slower rate if you aren’t already staying at these hotels. It might be an okay card to keep on hand for when you do stay at Hyatt hotels, but the annual fee may offset any savings you do see.

Main Benefits

Earn points on all your purchases

No matter where you use your World of Hyatt Credit Card, you’ll earn points on every purchase. You’ll obtain the highest number of points with Hyatt purchases, but even airfare, dining, gym memberships, and souvenir shopping earns you up to two points for each dollar you spend.

Automatic World of Hyatt Discoverist status

As a World of Hyatt Credit Card owner, you’ll enjoy free World of Hyatt Discoverist membership status. Perks of this tier include exclusive member rates, premium internet service, complimentary bottled water, and where available, late checkout, and upgraded rooms.

No foreign transaction fees

If you like traveling the globe, the World of Hyatt Credit Card helps keep money in your pocket. You’ll see no foreign transaction fees on your overseas purchases, which can amount to a savings of up to 3% when compared to the fees charged by other credit cards.

Possible Drawbacks

Annual card fee

The $95 annual fee is assessed every year your account is open, even if you don’t use the card very much. If you’re a frequent user, you’ll probably get a lot more benefit from the card than what you pay in fees. However, if you’re an infrequent user or low spender, you may pay more for the fee than you’ll save in free hotel stays.

Locked into the Hyatt brand

To enjoy all the benefits that the World of Hyatt Credit Card offers, you have to stay at Hyatt-branded hotels. This can restrict you from staying exactly where you want to stay and prevent you from comparing prices to find the best hotel deals.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card Compared to Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

The World of Hyatt Credit Card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card are both Chase-branded credit cards. Still, the former is more appropriate for those who often stay at Hyatt hotels, while the latter is a better choice for travelers who have no specific hotel preference. The World of Hyatt Credit Card rewards cardholders with nine points per dollar that they spend on Hyatt purchases for World of Hyatt members, plus up to two points per dollar spent elsewhere. The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card offers two points per dollar on dining and travel and then one point per dollar on all other purchases.

The World of Hyatt awards you 25,000 points if you spend $3,000 within the first three months and an additional 25,000 points if you spend $6,000 within the first six months, while the Chase Sapphire Premier offers 60,000 points when you spend $4,000 in the first three months.
