Friedrich is known for its quality craftsmanship and has been focusing on manufacturing air conditioners in the United States for over 100 years. The company offers a variety of air conditioner products, designed specifically for both home and commercial use. All of its machines are built with efficiency and durability in mind while also featuring some of the quietest air conditioners you can buy.

If you’re in the market for a new air conditioner, Friedrich probably has a good option for you. It has an impressive product lineup that includes window units, wall units, duct split systems, portable units, and more. Note that Friedrich air conditioners can only be purchased through specialty retailers, and are not sold at big box stores like Lowe’s.

Pros: Cons:
  • Efficient/high SEER ratings
  • Very quiet
  • Wide range of products
  • Price
  • Only available at special dealers
  • Limited warranty
  • Friedrich’s products are extremely high quality, but it also means the air conditioners come at a premium. Basic window air conditioner units retail anywhere from $250 to $750, and portable units are priced around $700 and higher.

The full lineup of Friedrich’s units has a SEER rating of up to 28, which means most products are very energy efficient. A SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) determines how much energy is needed to cool an area. The higher SEER rating indicates a better performing air conditioner when it comes to energy use and efficiency. However, air conditioners with a high SEER rating tend to be more expensive than units with a low rating.

The major downside to Friedrich’s air conditioners is that its warranty is very limited. If your unit gets damaged and needs to be repaired, the company will only cover the cost of repairs for the first year after purchase. By comparison, many other air conditioner companies offer a warranty of 10 years on average.

    Energy efficiency – SEER rating

Across the board, Friedrich’s air conditioners are pretty energy efficient. However, they aren’t the most efficient option on the market. The standard SEER rating for air conditioners is 13, and Friedrich’s air conditioner units can reach up to 28 SEER. Keep in mind that the higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit is. Lower SEER ratings mean less output, and the unit is more likely to burn out faster.

    Warranty options

For all of Friedrich’s air conditioner models, the standard warranty is one year from the purchase date. If any part of the unit is defective due to craftsmanship or material, the company will repair the unit at no charge. According to the company’s website, the owner must have the original receipt or other proof of purchase in order to take advantage of the warranty offer.

However, Friedrich’s warranty is poor compared to many of its competitors. Most air conditioner companies offer a warranty of up to 10 years and will repair damaged units at no charge. Although Friedrich’s prices are lower than other air conditioners, keep in mind that you will have to pay out-of-pocket to repair or replace the unit if it breaks after one year.

    Installation and maintenance

One of Friedrich’s selling points is that most of its units are designed for easy installation. All window units come with an installation and operation manual that includes step-by-step instructions for setting up the unit. These guides are also available online for easy access and troubleshooting.

If you purchase a ductless unit, however, you’ll have to pay an HVAC professional to install the air conditioner for you. Contact the dealer you purchased the unit from to see if it offers installation services or find a local handyman who specializes in HVAC installations.

    Friedrich vs. Carrier Air Conditioners

When you compare Friedrich and Carrier, Friedrich comes out on top in terms of price. Friedrich’s units are designed for efficiency and durability, while being less expensive than Carrier. Although Friedrich’s air conditioners are energy efficient, its SEER ratings tend to be lower than Carrier across the board. Carrier’s units are more efficient in terms of SEER and BTUs, but the units come at a much higher price tag.

    Friedrich vs. Amana Air Conditioners

Friedrich and Amana are comparable in terms of price. However, Amana’s air conditioner units are slightly more efficient, and generally have higher BTUs. If the price is your main concern when shopping for an air conditioner, Amana is a great all-around choice. Amana also beats Friedrich when it comes to its warranty. Amana’s units might not be quite as durable as Friedrich, but it does come with a 10-year warranty, which means you’ll be able to replace faulty or damaged parts at no charge for a longer period of time.
