LG Air Conditioner Review

LG’s motto is “Life is Good,” and the South Korean electronics company manufactures many types of appliances to help consumers enjoy their life.

If you’re looking for a wide selection of units, LG sells more than 25 mini-split ductless air conditioners. They have a wide range of models for every consumer need, from a 9,000 BTU model for a smaller space to a 42,000 BTU model that could cool several rooms. All models include remote controls for adjusting the temperature.

LG has some of the most energy-efficient models in the market. All of their unit’s efficiency levels are higher than the national minimum. Their SEER ratings, which measure how much electricity it takes to cool a space, ranging from 16.5 to a high of 27.5, which is one of the highest SEER ratings we have seen.

Pricing and installation costs are in line with competitors, but LG’s warranty is not as good. Most major competitors offer ten-year warranties, whereas LG’s warranty only extends for five years. Some competitors also cover the coil and heat exchanger in addition to the compressor, but LG only includes the compressor parts in its warranty.

Pros
Cons
  • One of the widest range of models on the market
  • All models above minimum energy efficiency ratings.
  • Wide range of BTUs available
  • Poorer warranty than competitors
  • Large selection could be confusing
  • Higher-end models very expensive

    Energy efficiency – SEER rating

A model’s SEER rating tells you its energy efficiency. A SEER rating measures that amount of energy, in watt-hours, that it takes to remove heat from a room. The higher the number, the better, as it will cost you less to cool your space if you buy a more efficient unit.

LG’s wide range of models goes from a low of 16.5 to a high of 27.5 for their SEER ratings. None of their models fall below the nationally required level of 13, which is indicative of the brand’s focus on energy efficiency. When picking a unit for your home, you’ll want to balance the trade-off between energy efficiency, price, and area you need to cool. Purchasing an extremely efficient unit that cools a larger space than you need would be a waste of money.

    Warranty options

Buying an air conditioning unit is a significant investment, and you count on it to last. If you want to know if the company stands behind its products, look at its warranty. Warranties will also reassure you that if anything goes wrong, you’ll be able to get it fixed.

LG offers a five-year parts and labor warranty and a five-year limited warranty on the compressor. LG’s warranty is decent but not as good as some competitors. Both HEIL and RHEEM cover their units with a 10-year parts warranty, and HEIL’s warranties cover both the compressor and the coil and heat exchanger.

If you’ve had bad luck with air conditioning units and want one with a strong warranty, you might want to investigate other options.

    Installation and maintenance

Air conditioning manufacturers don’t sell directly to consumers. Instead, you’ll buy your unit from a dealer or distributor. They’re sold online at many independent websites, on Amazon.com, and at big-box retailers such as Lowes.

While you may think you could install an LG air conditioner yourself, the process is more complicated than it looks. It requires drilling holes in the interior and exterior of your house, running tubing, and wiring electricity to support the unit.
