LifeLock’s Services & Features
LifeLock’s plans range from $8.99 per month to $25.99 per month for the first year, depending on the level of identity theft coverage you’re looking for. Lower-tier plans include credit bureau monitoring from one bureau, while the top-of-the-line Ultimate Plus product has monitoring from all three. Learn more about the features of each plan below.
*Information accurate as of January 21, 2020.
Credit Bureau Monitoring
Each of LifeLock’s four plans offers at least one-bureau credit monitoring. The Standard, Select, and Advantage plans include monitoring from one credit bureau, whereas the Ultimate Plus product provides monitoring from all three.
It’s important to note that customers must meet two criteria in order to receive credit monitoring benefits. First, your identity must be verified with Equifax. And second, Equifax should be able to find your credit file, which should contain an adequate amount of credit history.
LifeLock also warns that credit monitoring is just one component of a comprehensive identity theft protection plan. Each of their products provides services that go beyond standard credit bureau monitoring.
When your identity has been compromised, damage control should begin as quickly as possible. LifeLock understands this urgency. As part of its offering, the company sends alerts to customers if they suspect a breach so they are aware from the very first indication of suspicious activity.
Each of the LifeLock products includes alerts when your a potential threat to your identity or social security number is detected. You can choose to receive alerts by email, mobile app, phone, or text, depending on your communication preferences.
With its two higher-tier plans, LifeLock also includes alerts on your credit, checking, and savings accounts, as well as notifications if they find that a crime has been committed in your name.
Dark Web Monitoring
These days, personally identifiable information (PII) is frequently bought and sold on the dark web. However, since the dark web requires special software to access, it is extremely difficult for the average person to recognize where their information has been exposed on the dark web.
Because of this, LifeLock offers dark web monitoring services as part of all of its plans. In the unfortunate event that your information has been uncovered on the dark web, LifeLock will help restore your identity.
Change of Address Monitoring
In some cases, identity thieves will try to change your address with the post office, in order to intercept your sensitive financial documents. For example, criminals may try to get your bank statements or tax information diverted so they can use it maliciously.
To prevent this, all LifeLock plans include USPS address change verification services. In the event someone attempts to change your address, LifeLock will notify you of the request so you can review it and take action if necessary.
Identity Theft Insurance
One of the most important things to look for when purchasing an identity theft protection policy is the level of insurance provided by the company. LifeLock offers a range of options, depending on the level of coverage you want.
For personal expenses incurred from an identity theft incident, your coverage will range from $25,000 (on the Standard plan) to $1 million (on the Ultimate Plus plan). The same range applies for stolen funds. Plus, every plan offers up to $1 million to pay for lawyers and experts to resolve your case.
Children are particularly vulnerable to identity theft, since they tend to have clean credit histories and breaches are more challenging to monitor. To prevent this, LifeLock offers a plan called LifeLock Junior, which is designed to protect the identities of children under 18.
LifeLock Junior is available as an add-on for your adult membership, at a cost of $5.99 per month. If you have little ones, the extra peace of mind may be worth the relatively small minor cost. (Please note: call LifeLock directly to verify this is offered in your area.)
It’s an extremely unsettling feeling to realize that your bank accounts have been compromised. In these situations, you must act quickly to prevent criminals from emptying your accounts or maxing out your credit cards.
LifeLock’s Advantage and Ultimate Plus plans include alerts in the case of unusual activity on your credit, checking, or savings accounts. These alerts can help you verify the charges right away. If they are fraudulent, LifeLock’s U.S.-based restoration team will begin fixing the problems on your behalf.
Depending on the plan tier, LifeLock offers a number of additional benefits to its customers. For example, with most plans (excluding the Standard), LifeLock provides 24/7 live member support. With thieves operating around the clock and around the world, this is an important feature to help you act quickly if and when your identity is compromised.
Because LifeLock is owned by Norton, the company has strong cybersecurity for its members. In fact, Norton’s industry-leading antivirus software blocks 142 million threats per day. With LifeLock’s premium plans, you’ll benefit from security features such as anonymous browsing and ad-tracker blocking to keep you safer online.
