Northeastern University Review

Northeastern University’s online education is offered through its College of Professional Studies division for undergraduate students and through various graduate schools for postgraduate students. If you’re a busy professional or have life commitments that make it hard for you to undertake a traditional program of study, you’ll love that Northeastern’s online programs flex with your schedule and allow you to get your education on your terms. International students are also welcome to join the other 7,500 international students and scholars who study in one of Northeastern’s campuses across the United States or through their online-only programs.

The College of Professional Studies provides three certificate programs and 10 bachelor’s programs in 100% online formats. These programs cover a wide variety of fields so even though the selection is small, there’s a greater likelihood at least one program in an area you’re interested in is available.

In contrast, Northeastern’s graduate schools have over 150 online-only and hybrid certificate, master’s, or doctoral programs with full-time or part-time schedules in disciplines like law, nursing and health care, psychology, engineering, business, and science. Northeastern University’s main campus is located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Business

Northeastern University offers several graduate certificates and master’s degrees in business that are able to be completed entirely online. These include business administration, business analytics, marketing, finance, and forensic accounting.

An undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Management is also available. Students practice managerial and leadership skills in real-world settings to develop the critical thinking and business ethics skills they need to adapt to management positions across fields. Career opportunities include human resources manager, cost estimator, budget analyst, and more.

Engineering

While there aren’t any undergraduate degrees offered in engineering, Northeastern does provide an undergraduate Certificate in Principles of Manufacturing. It’s an online-only course that you can complete in as little as two terms. Students who successfully finish the course are eligible for many entry-level careers in areas such as logistics and supply chain, sales, production and assembly, and more.

If you’re seeking a graduate certificate or master’s degree, Northeastern University offers a graduate certificate in remote sensing. The university also provides energy systems and engineering management master’s degrees.

Health and Nursing

Northeastern’s undergraduate health management degree equips you to merge healthcare and business for career opportunities as a medical and health services manager, social or community service manager, and healthcare administrator, among others.

The graduate programs offer 19 unique online and hybrid master’s or certificate programs in a range of areas that prepare you to become a neonatal nurse practitioner, a nurse with advanced skills, or a physician assistant—to name a few. Program durations range from eight months to three years.

Law

As a graduate student, you can choose from a variety of certificate and master’s programs in law in online or hybrid formats, as well as part-time or full-time studies. For instance, one option is a degree in criminal justice, which has both part-time and full-time choices and takes two to three years to complete. The school also has hybrid doctoral degrees in law and policy, but doesn’t offer any undergraduate law degrees or certificates.

Professional Studies

All of Northeastern’s undergraduate online and hybrid classes are part of its College of Professional Studies. The college strives to combine theory and practice for bachelor’s degree graduates who are ready to dive into their chosen fields. The school designed its programs around the lives of working professionals so they could complete their degrees while still maintaining their existing commitments. Several master’s degree programs and graduate certificate courses also offer the interdisciplinary approach associated with professional study programs, such as applied nutrition and urban analytics.

Science

If you’re interested in biotechnology, Northeastern University offers an online graduate certificate and an online and hybrid master’s degree options in biotechnology with the in-person component at its San Francisco satellite campus. Biotechnology enterprise, experimental biotechnology, molecular biotechnology, process science, and regulatory science certificate programs are also available. All science programs have a choice between full-time and part-time studies. Northeastern doesn’t have any online or hybrid undergraduate programs in the sciences.

Social Sciences

Northeastern has one undergraduate degree option in psychology, one hybrid graduate certificate program in urban analytics, and one master’s degree path in urban informatics in online or hybrid formats.
