Healthy Paws Review
Healthy Paws offers customizable pet insurance plans with no limits on benefits. Though they don't cover routine care, Healthy Paws makes an excellent choice for consumers looking to completely protect their pets against the unexpected.
Healthy Paws is one of the very few pet insurance companies that doesn’t impose any annual, lifetime, or per-incident caps on payouts. This means that once you’ve reached your deductible, they pay for all the vet bills aside from the copayment. This is extremely valuable because, while it’s unlikely you will ever reach a policy’s lifetime cap, per-incident or annual caps could be reached very quickly if your cat or dog contracts a serious illness like cancer. In these cases, having unlimited payouts could end up saving you quite a bit of money while still enabling you to get quality treatment for your pet.
Choose your deductible and copay
Rather than limiting you to a single option, Healthy Paws gives you three choices each for your deductible and copay. Deductibles can be either $100, $250, or $500 and, as far as your copayment, you can select between the 10%, 20%, and 30% options. These choices are a little more limited for older pets but, if you’re insuring a younger pet, you get to decide what you’re willing to pay. Keep in mind, though, that a lower copay and deductible result in higher monthly premiums.
Discounts for organization members
If you belong to AAA, AMAC, or one of several other organizations, you’re eligible for a discount on your Healthy Paws pet insurance premiums. This discount can save you around $40 per pet per year and, if you’re insuring multiple pets, those savings add up quickly. Discounts as a whole are not as common in this industry as they are among home and auto insurance providers, and organization discounts are especially rare. So, if you qualify, you may want to take a closer look at what Healthy Paws has to offer.
Help homeless pets when you get a quote
Through Healthy Paws’ Every Quote Gives Hope™ program, you can help homeless dogs and cats get the medical treatment they need just by getting a quote. For every quote, Healthy Paws donates money to organizations that help homeless pets get much needed surgeries and vaccines to keep them healthy. No purchase is necessary for this program and all you need is a minute or two to sit down and fill out their simple quote form.
Can't add wellness coverage
Healthy Paws doesn’t give you the option to purchase extra coverage for routine and preventative care like most other pet insurance companies do. You have to pay for any costs related to this type of treatment yourself because Healthy Paws insurance only covers emergency medical care. If this is all you’re looking for, Healthy Paws could still be the right fit; otherwise, it’s probably in your best interest to explore some other companies.
No savings for insuring multiple pets
Although Healthy Paws does offer some discounts to pet owners, you won’t earn any additional savings for insuring multiple pets on the same plan. This won’t be an issue if you only have a single dog or cat to insure, but if you own multiple pets, choosing a company that offers a multi-pet discount could be a smart financial decision. Petplan USA and VPI are good companies to look into; they offer 10% and 15% multi-pet discounts, respectively.
