Petplan USA Review
Petplan offers pet insurance policies with customizable yearly coverage limits and some of the best discounts in the industry. Customers looking for comprehensive protection may be disappointed by the lack of wellness and routine care coverage.
Unlimited coverage limits
Depending on which plan you choose or build, Petplan has coverage options ranging from $2,500 to an unlimited amount per year for any non-routine medical treatment your pet needs. This is among the highest available annual limits in the pet insurance industry and is ideal owners who want especially high protection or perhaps have made substantial investments in their pets — like working dogs.
Three reimbursement options
Petplan gives you the option to choose your reimbursement amount. You can choose to receive 70 percent, 80 percent, or 90 percent reimbursement on you claims. Keep in mind that choosing the higher options will increase your premiums.
Covers non-routine dental care
Though Petplan doesn’t pay for routine dental cleanings, it does cover certain non-routine dental like periodontal disease or physical accidents — for example, broken teeth resulting from an accident. If you aren’t sure whether or not the dental procedure your dog or cat needs is considered non-routine, you should contact Petplan.
Nice variety of discounts
Petplan offers a few different ways to save on your pet insurance policy, including a 5% discount just for purchasing online. While it no longer offers discounts on plans covering multiple pets or for veterinary professionals, you can also take 10 percent off your policy premium if your dog works in medical services or if you are in the military.
Thoughtful ancillary coverage
If you choose a plan that has an annual coverage limit of $15,000 or more, you will also receive additional coverage (up to $1,000) for things like advertising and reward money if your pet is lost or stolen, or if a pet’s sudden illness or injury interrupts or cancels a trip.
Doesn't cover wellness treatments
Petplan provides excellent coverage for most emergencies, but it doesn’t offer any sort of benefits for routine and wellness care like vaccines. It isn’t the only pet insurance provider to exclude these types of treatments from its coverage; however, there are several other companies that enable customers to purchase wellness coverage as an optional add-on to their standard policy. If you’re looking for a high level of comprehensive pet health protection, companies like FIGO may be a better choice for you.
