The Good

Extensive set of collaborative tools

Audio and video conferencing is only the start of the multitude of ways attendees can communicate during meetings. Adobe Connect enables you to create whiteboards to take notes as well as annotate shared documents and highlight important sections. Presenters have the ability to share their entire desktop or a single application if that’s more convenient. With one click, give control of your screen to another attendee so they can take over the presentation. Group and private chats are available when you enable the Chat pod, offering you an easy way to speak to the entire group or a specific individual during the meeting. There are Note pods where participants can keep track of important information in a single, easy-to-view space. With so many ways of interacting with important documents and fellow attendees, Adobe Connect is sure to boost productivity and improve communication within your organization and with clients.

Focus discussions with breakout rooms

Hosts have the ability to set up and assign participants to breakout rooms so each group can focus on separate projects. The breakout rooms are essentially the same as the main conference room, except the host limits participants’ access to particular rooms. Each room has a private VoIP or phone conference call line so attendees can speak directly to the other group members. Hosts can bounce between rooms to monitor discussions and pass messages back and forth. Adobe Connect isn’t the only web conferencing software to offer breakout rooms, but they’re one of the few companies that do. If this interests you, take a closer look at Adobe.

Helpful for hosting face-to-face meetings

Adobe Connect supports an unlimited number of webcam feeds, enabling you to see and speak to any number of participants. Choose how you’d like to see the webcams, either with a large view of a single speaker or a grid view showing everybody. Video feeds are DVD-quality, so the image is clear. The majority of web conferencing services limit the number of simultaneous webcam feeds, making you switch back and forth between feeds if you want to see everyone. In situations such as giving a presentation to your team, video feeds may not be as important. If you’re meeting with a group of clients, though, the ability to see and hear them is valuable.

Get detailed feedback from participants

Adobe Connect goes beyond the traditional methods of obtaining attendee feedback, such as raising hands, by giving several different responses for participants to choose from. The Raise Hand option is available when you have a question, but you’re also able to indicate whether you agree or disagree with what the presenter is saying and ask them to adjust their volume or speed if you’re having a hard time following. It’s a simple thing, but it helps presentations flow more smoothly since presenters don’t have to stop in order to understand participants’ needs.

Ideal for co-presenting

Adobe Connect comes with a special presenter-only area where you can chat and share content without the other participants seeing. This is perfect when you’re presenting with a coworker and need a simple way to communicate privately with one another. Most web conferencing services don’t offer this unique tool, but it’s incredibly valuable, especially when hosting meetings with clients.

Customize every aspect of your meeting area

Adobe Connect’s meeting rooms contain several different pods, each of which serve a separate function. The Share pod is where you view presentations while the Camera and Voice pod displays webcam feeds. Add a Notes pod to take group notes, an Attendee List pod to manage participants, and a Chat pod to communicate with them. You can add, delete, move, and adjust the size of the pods before or during your meeting. Adobe Connect has several built-in templates of meeting room layouts to choose from, or you can save your own. You can also brand your meeting room: Add your company logo, change the color scheme, and create unique URLs for your conference rooms.

The Bad

Somewhat expensive

Adobe Connect’s plans charge you over $50 per month per host, which means organizations who intend to give several people host statuses will pay significantly more. You can save money by paying annually rather than monthly, but it still might not be enough of a discount if you have a smaller budget. One thing to keep in mind is that Adobe Connect is one of the top web conferencing services available, so you will get a good value for your money.
