NetZero DSL Review
Netzero offers some of the most affordable Internet service available, but speeds are unimpressive and a 12-month contract is required. Sign Up
NetZero's regular rates are much lower than their competitors, making them a great option for anyone looking for DSL Internet on a budget. They also offer some excellent introductory rates for the first three months, saving you even more money. Even if keeping costs low is not your top priority when searching for an Internet service provider, there's no denying that their prices make NetZero a very appealing option for DSL Internet.
There are no equipment lease fees with NetZero. Instead, the wireless modem is included free of charge with your plan. This is a great bonus that you don't often find with DSL Internet providers, and it saves you at least a few dollars per month. This likely won't be a deciding factor when choosing a DSL service provider, but it's still something to keep in mind.
You cannot get NetZero's DSL service unless you first sign a 12-month contract. Most Internet service providers do not require this from their customers, and so you may be a little annoyed that NetZero does. They also offer a money-back guarantee, though, so you can return their services after a month if you decide they are not for you, but that may not be enough for some people. If you would rather avoid contracts, there are several other DSL Internet providers that offer contract-free service.
NetZero's speeds aren't the most desirable, maxing out at 6 Mbps on their best plan. Upload speeds are similarly slow with only 768 Kbps available. This probably is not enough for frequent Internet users, particularly for those who like to watch videos or play games online. If this concerns you, it may be wise to look into other DSL Internet companies or another type of Internet that offer higher speeds, such as cable Internet. However, NetZero could still be a good fit for you if your Internet needs are simpler.
NetZero does not offer phone or TV service, so there is no way to bundle those services with your DSL Internet. Most other companies in the industry offer phone service at the very least and some even require that it be purchased with the DSL Internet, so it is quite surprising that NetZero does not provide it. If you are just interested in Internet, this obviously won't be an issue, but if you are looking for the convenience of getting all your services in one place, NetZero isn't the right company for you.
If you choose to have your NetZero DSL system professionally installed instead of doing it yourself, you have to contact a separate company, Gurus2Go. NetZero does not do any of their own installations, unlike most other DSL Internet companies. This could be a little frustrating for you since having to contact and schedule an appointment with a separate company means extra time and hassle on your part. But if you choose to self install, you won't have to worry about this.
