Reviews Report
- ASI is part of Progressive Home Insurance Group (Progressive’s homeowners arm), underwriting property insurance lines such as homeowners, condo, and renters—not auto or life.
- ASI offers a basic homeowners policy with the option to upgrade to more comprehensive packages and higher limits, with availability and features varying by state.
- Recent third-party benchmarks show a mixed picture: industry-wide property claims satisfaction has faced pressure during catastrophe-heavy periods (J.D. Power), while cross-industry results from the ACSI place homeowners in the mid-range. For complaints, review the NAIC Company Complaint Index for the specific ASI underwriting entity; 1.00 equals industry average (NAIC guide, NAIC CIS).
ASI, which stands for American Strategic Insurance, is part of the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies. ASI was established in 1997 and has grown to become the 10th largest homeowners insurance carrier in the U.S., in partnership with Progressive. Progressive Home Insurance Group — which includes ASI companies — holds an AM Best Financial Strength Rating of A+ (Superior); outlook Negative (latest action in 2024; see AM Best release and AM Best Rating Center). For customer experience context, historical references like the J.D. Power Home Insurance study should be complemented with the latest industry research, including J.D. Power’s Property Claims Satisfaction Study and the ACSI.
ASI offers plenty of options for homeowners to customize their homeowners insurance policies, with several available add-ons and riders. In higher-risk areas, expect peril-specific deductibles and tighter underwriting; verified mitigation can help reduce costs (NOAA, III, Florida mitigation credits, IBHS FORTIFIED). In addition, ASI offers a few discounts with Progressive to save on premiums, although availability varies by state.

ASI Home Insurance
ASI provides homeowners with a multitude of policy options and add-ons for comprehensive homeowners insurance policies. ASI offers the standard coverages most other carriers offer — dwelling coverage for the home and attached structures, personal property coverage, liability, and living expense reimbursement if a homeowner is displaced due to damage to the home. These coverages are available with most basic coverage plans. As industry conditions evolve, carriers are increasingly using property-level analytics and strengthening digital claims capabilities; cycle time and communication remain key drivers of satisfaction (2025 Home Trends Report; J.D. Power).
ASI offers more ways to further customize a homeowners insurance policy if a homeowner is looking for more robust options. ASI offers a HomeShield package and a Homeshield Plus option, in addition to the basic coverage. These packages may vary depending on the state, but the HomeShield package may include 25% increased replacement cost, $5,000 limit on water backup, personal injury coverage, $3,000 limit for loss of jewelry and other high valuables, plus several other benefits.
The HomeShield Plus package includes the same benefits, but with higher limits for each category. For example, 50% increased replacement cost, $10,000 limit on water backup, and a $5,000 limit on high valuables such as jewelry and furs. All packages have additional coverage options for further customization. If a homeowner must file a claim because of damage, the expanded contractor network may be able to provide quicker assistance for repairs.
ASI Auto Insurance and Other Coverage
Although ASI does not directly offer auto insurance, Progressive auto policyholders may qualify for additional savings in partnership with ASI. Discounts for bundling your ASI home policy and Progressive auto insurance policy will allow you to save on both policies, in select states. Savings and eligibility vary by state filings; the Insurance Information Institute recommends comparing quotes with and without bundling (III).
In addition, ASI offers coverage for condos or renters.
Strengths: Progressive Home Insurance Group (including ASI companies) currently holds an AM Best Financial Strength Rating of A+ (Superior); outlook Negative (latest action in 2024; see AM Best release and AM Best Rating Center). This indicates how well an insurance carrier is expected to meet its ongoing policyholder obligations. ASI also offers a unique program of a single deductible, if you are also an auto insurance policyholder with Progressive. This allows customers to only pay one single deductible if a loss affects both your home and vehicle, which could be a saving of hundreds of dollars or more.
Restrictions: For an objective view of complaints, consult the NAIC Company Complaint Index for the specific ASI underwriting entity and line; 1.00 equals industry average (below 1.00 indicates fewer complaints than expected) (NAIC guide, NAIC CIS). A customer may have a harder time with ASI if they are highly dependent on a mobile app for policy management. Currently, ASI does not provide a mobile app option, although customers can go online or call customer service 24/7 for policy management.
Discounts: ASI Progressive offers a variety of homeowners insurance discounts. Discounts range from bundling to a paid-in-full and paperless statement discount. However, lifestyle discounts may allow homeowners to save even more, including a discount for non-smokers, and safety discounts for alarm systems. Discounts are also offered for first time homeowners or those who purchase a new construction home. Savings and eligibility are state-specific and must be filed; in some states, mitigation credits can be significant—for example, Florida requires insurers to offer windstorm mitigation discounts on residential property insurance (Florida statute). For bundle decisions, the Insurance Information Institute recommends comparing quotes with and without the bundle (III).
