Reviews Report

  • ASI is part of the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, which underwrites home insurance policies exclusively.
  • ASI offers a basic homeowners insurance package, or the ability to upgrade to more comprehensive policies with higher limits.
  • ASI does not score as high with customer satisfaction in the 2021 J.D. Power Home Insurance study compared to other carriers. However, it earns an industry average customer complaint index through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

ASI, which stands for American Strategic Insurance, and is part of the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies. ASI was established in 1997 and has grown to become the 10th largest homeowners insurance carrier in the U.S., in partnership with Progressive. Although it earns an A+ (Superior) rating for financial strength through AM Best, ASI does struggle to receive high customer satisfaction marks from third-party rating agencies. Currently, ASI Progressive’s ratings are below industry average in the 2021 J.D. Power Home Insurance study

ASI offers plenty of options for homeowners to customize their homeowners insurance policies, with several available add-ons and riders. In addition, ASI offers a few discounts with Progressive to save on premiums, although availability varies by state.

ASI Home Insurance

ASI provides homeowners with a multitude of policy options and add-ons for comprehensive homeowners insurance policies. ASI offers the standard coverages most other carriers offer — dwelling coverage for the home and attached structures, personal property coverage, liability, and living expense reimbursement if a homeowner is displaced due to damage to the home. These coverages are available with most basic coverage plans.

ASI offers more ways to further customize a homeowners insurance policy if a homeowner is looking for more robust options. ASI offers a HomeShield package and a Homeshield Plus option, in addition to the basic coverage. These packages may vary depending on the state, but the HomeShield package may include 25% increased replacement cost, $5,000 limit on water backup, personal injury coverage, $3,000 limit for loss of jewelry and other high valuables, plus several other benefits.

The HomeShield Plus package includes the same benefits, but with higher limits for each category. For example, 50% increased replacement cost, $10,000 limit on water backup, and a $5,000 limit on high valuables such as jewelry and furs. All packages have additional coverage options for further customization. If a homeowner must file a claim because of damage, the expanded contractor network may be able to provide quicker assistance for repairs.

ASI Auto Insurance and Other Coverage

Although ASI does not directly offer auto insurance, Progressive auto policyholders may qualify for additional savings in partnership with ASI. Discounts for bundling your ASI home policy and Progressive auto insurance policy will allow you to save on both policies, in select states.

In addition, ASI offers coverage for condos or renters.

Strengths: ASI Progressive is currently rated with an A+ (Superior) rating through AM Best. This indicates how well an insurance carrier was able to payout on claims. ASI also offers a unique program of a single deductible, if you are also an auto insurance policyholder with Progressive. This allows customers to only pay one single deductible if a loss affects both your home and vehicle, which could be a saving of hundreds of dollars or more.

Restrictions: While the J.D. Power ratings for ASI may be below industry average, the company receives a .96 rating for the registered customer complaint index through the NAIC. The industry average is a 1, which means ASI slightly fewer complaints than average. A customer may have a harder time with ASI if they are highly dependent on a mobile app for policy management. Currently, ASI does not provide a mobile app option, although customers can go online or call customer service 24/7 for policy management.

Discounts: ASI Progressive offers a variety of homeowners insurance discounts. Discounts range from bundling to a paid-in-full and paperless statement discount. However, lifestyle discounts may allow homeowners to save even more, including a discount for non-smokers, and safety discounts for alarm systems. Discounts are also offered for first time homeowners or those who purchase a new construction home.
