Go Auto Insurance markets itself on being a low-cost option for drivers; however, low cost doesn’t always mean good value.

Covering Louisiana, Nevada and Idaho, the Baton Rouge-based auto insurer has been operating for 10 years since first opening its doors. As a small and relatively new insurer, Go Auto Insurance lacks the financial heft of some of its more well-known peers and seems to fall when it comes to customer satisfaction.

As Go Auto Insurance primarily markets itself as a low-cost insurance provider, you’d expect this to be where it shines. We’ll use Louisiana as our example, as that is where Go Auto Insurance has the largest footprint. Louisiana has an average insurance cost of $2,170 — which is fairly high compared to U.S. averages. Go Auto Insurance averages out at around $1,800, which presents rather a significant saving on the rates one could expect from this part of the country.

Remember that auto insurance rates vary significantly based on geographical location and individual circumstances such as driver history and age. These values should only be taken as a guideline for comparison purposes.

Customer experience

As Go Auto Insurance has not been rated by JD Power — neither in its nationwide customer satisfaction score nor by state — we’ll look to the Better Business Bureau for this information.

The BBB gives Go Auto Insurance one star out of five, based on just 10 reviews. Even though this is a relatively small sample size, the lower-than-average rating is more likely a product of the insurer’s lack of industry impact than anything else. Go Auto Insurance meets minimum requirements under Louisiana state regulations for injury and damage liability for other parties in accidents caused by the insurance holder. For the driver, Go Auto Insurance can cover medical payments, funeral costs and lost wages regardless of fault, as well as environmental damage and theft/vandalism. It also has options for recouping costs if the policyholder is hit by an uninsured driver.

Go Auto Insurance doesn’t offer roadside assistance, rideshare coverage or gap insurance, but it does have options for things such as towing and car rental coverage. Go Auto Insurance is purely a car insurance provider, so you can’t access any umbrella products like property insurance.

During April and May 2020, Go Auto Insurance offered a 15% discount on premiums in the Louisiana area to help customers save money due to the coronavirus crisis. Nevertheless, with the relatively low base cost of Go Auto Insurance, this is less of an issue than it would be with more expensive providers.

Go Auto Insurance vs. USAA

USAA is one of the highest-rated insurance providers in the U.S. today. As you can see from the table above, it has an A++ rating from AM Best and a five-star customer satisfaction rating from J.D. Power.

USAA saves customers an average of $707 on their premium and offers plenty of options depending on the customer’s driving, vehicle and membership. The only real downside of USAA is that it is only available to military personnel and their families.

Go Auto Insurance vs. Geico

Geico is another insurance provider at the lower end of the cost spectrum. It has an edge over Go Auto Insurance since it also offers property insurance and provides additional savings to customers who take out both kinds of policies simultaneously.

Geico also has much better-than-average customer satisfaction and financial strength ratings, which may make it a safer bet for your money than the largely unrated Go Auto Insurance.
