Geico offers standard car insurance coverage, such as liability, medical payments, personal injury protection, uninsured/underinsured motorist, comprehensive, and collision. Geico also offers optional coverage for emergency roadside service, mechanical breakdown, and rental car reimbursement, as well as coverage for people traveling to Mexico or who own a classic car. In addition, Geico is one of the few providers that offers specific coverage and discount opportunities for military drivers.

Based on Geico’s J.D. Power overall customer satisfaction ratings, the company’s customer service varies significantly based on region. While Geico is rated near the top in some areas, it’s rated much lower in other regions, like Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.

In terms of online customer experience, Geico reports its website has an average customer rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, with 88% of customers recommending it, while Trustpilot rates Geico as average based on 19 reviews. According to some Geico reviews, however, customers have not been satisfied with the claims experience, price increases, and long hold times with agents.

Out of all our competitor comparisons, Geico has the highest number of available discounts, which can help drivers get a lower rate.

However, Geico does not offer many endorsements. The add-on coverage available includes roadside assistance, coverage for newer cars with certain mechanical breakdowns, and rental car reimbursement coverage, which helps pay for a rental car if your vehicle is the shop for a covered claim.

The claims experience is where Geico sees mixed scores from third-party rating agencies, even with the option to file online, over the phone, or through the app 24/7. Geico has a just-below-average rating in the 2020 J.D. Power study. However, it does have a lower-than-average complaint index with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for its auto insurance products.

The average complaint rating for the car insurance industry is 1.00 but Geico’s index is .79, showing the company gets less than average complaints compared to competitors.
