State Farm Review

State Farm isn’t your local mom and pop insurance company; it’s a modern, financially solid insurance company that looks and operates like it belongs in 2020.

In addition to offering car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance, State Farm is one of the few insurance companies that also offers motorcycle insurance with a variety add-ons providing coverage for:

  • Damage to your motorcycle in an accident
  • Protective gear
  • Side cars that are attached
  • Trip interruption expenses
  • Emergency roadside expenses
  • Uninsured motorist coverage (which includes bodily injury and property damage coverage)
  • Your state’s liability requirements
  • Vandalism, fire, theft (even if your bike is in storage)

State Farm is a universally-liked provider. AM Best ranks its financial strength as an A++ (meaning best of the best), and J.D. Power considers it to be better than most other auto insurance companies for customer satisfaction.

About the only thing missing from State Farm is discounts. Presently, it doesn’t offer as many ways to save as other providers.

However, this may be because it’s often already significantly cheaper than its competitors. You don’t need to offer discounts if your policy is already competitively priced.

Pros Cons
  • A++ with AM Best
  • 4 out of 5 with J.D. Power
  • Insures multiple motorcycle types
  • Offers a variety of coverage options
  • Affordable premiums

Does not offer many discounts

What it may lack in discounts, State Farm makes up for in all other regards. It’s positively reviewed, has competitive premiums, insures just about every type of motorcycle, and offers a wide range of coverage options to suit your needs.

State Farm Overview: Financial Strength, Availability, and History

State Farm has an A+ with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), which takes into account a few complaints against it (completely normal for an insurance company of its size).

The BBB notes State Farm was recently court-ordered to issue $13,335,701 back to 241,256 Calornians. However, this is because there was a dispute with the insurance commissioner of California who wanted Californians to have lower rates.

On YouGov State Farm is ranked as the third most popular insurance company in the nation. 50% of people have a positive opinion of it, 35% are neutral, and just 12% have a negative opinion of it.

During Covid-19, State Farm has actively participated in philanthropy work, frequently donating money to small businesses and nonprofits. Currently, State Farm has donated $10 million to help companies stay afloat.

  • In business since 1922
  • States served: 50
  • Offers multiple types of insurance

The Bottom Line

State Farm motorcycle insurance is a great choice to protect you, your passenger, and your motorcycle.

Though it doesn’t offer much in the way of discounts, State Farm does insure just about every motorcycle type there is and offers a lot of coverage options to suit your exact insurance needs.

Both the company and the State Farm Mobile app receive high reviews from customers (almost 160K positive reviews on Apple, 22,873 on Google for the app). In your search for a reputable, trustworthy motorcycle insurance provider, State Farm is a great place to start.
