24PetWatch offers pet insurance policies with a variety of coverage limits, making them a good fit for all kinds of budgets. Those looking for comprehensive pet protection may be disappointed by the lack of wellness coverage, however.
Wide range of coverage limits
24PetWatch offers policies with annual benefit limits varying between $1,500 and $20,000. The $1,500-per-year plan is well suited to individuals who are interested in just a basic level of coverage for their pet in case of an unexpected accident or minor illness. If you’re looking for more complete coverage, the $20,000 policy is going to be a better option. This extra protection is especially useful if your pet contracts a more serious illness such as cancer, as vet bills for that kind of treatment get expensive very quickly.
Multi-pet and microchipping discounts
Discounts are not all that common in the pet insurance industry, but 24PetWatch gives you the opportunity to save up to 15% on your premiums by microchipping your pets and insuring multiple pets on the same plan. In order to qualify for the microchipping discount, pets must also be registered with 24PetWatch’s Pet Recovery Network. Meeting these requirements earns you 5% off your premium. If you insure two pets and at least one of them is a cat, you’re eligible for an additional 5% discount. Insuring three or more pets — dogs, cats, or a combination of both — is worth a 10% premium reduction.
Reimbursement for lost pets
If your dog or cat runs away or gets lost, 24PetWatch gives you up to $500 to cover expenses related to printing flyers or other activities associated with finding your pet. This type of extra coverage is relatively uncommon among pet insurance providers, but it could make quite a difference in how quickly your pet is returned to you. 24PetWatch also reimburses you for more permanent losses. If your cat or dog is killed in an accident, they pay you $1,000 in addition to $200 to put toward the cremation of your pet.
Trip cancellation coverage
Should an unexpected pet injury or illness cause you to cancel a trip you were planning to take, 24PetWatch gives you $500 toward paying for any non-refundable travel costs. This is a rather unlikely scenario, but given its rarity in the pet insurance industry, it’s something you should keep in mind when you’re choosing a pet health insurance provider.
Routine and wellness care not covered
24PetWatch’s pet insurance policies only cover unexpected accidents and illnesses, so any expenses related to wellness or routine care have to come out of your own pocket. This is fairly common in the pet insurance industry, but most other companies offer an optional wellness package that can be added on to the standard policy to cover these costs. If you’re interested in finding a policy that pays for routine costs as well, you may want to look into ASPCA or Embrace pet insurance.
No choice of copay
No matter what 24PetWatch policy you select, you have a 20% copayment for all covered expenses. The majority of pet insurance providers give their customers a choice in how much they pay and those that don’t typically only require a 10% copay. But, it’s important to remember that a higher copay percentage is going to lead to a lower premium, so you’ll want to get a quote from 24PetWatch before making any decisions.
Claims process could use work
Although you can download a claims form right from 24PetWatch’s website, you’ll have to mail or fax it in order to submit it because there is no email submission option. There is also no way to track a claim once you’ve submitted it, though there is a support hotline you can call if you want an update. Though this may not be a deal breaker, it is something to be aware of when choosing a pet insurance company.
